| BuGs is currently in discussion with Treverbyn Parish Council and Wainhomes about the possibility of securing a piece of woodland in the centre of Bugle so that it can be used for the benefit of the local community.
The area of woodland is already ‘unofficially’ used by young residents of Bugle to ride their bicycles in. Over the years, the youngsters have, through their own enterprise, dug out pits and created mounds to create themselves a series of bicycle jumps and tracks amongst the trees. However, during the winter and other wet periods (like our recent summers!) the pits become water logged, preventing the youngsters from using the tracks. As a result they are forced lo look for other, and somteimes less positive, distractions. Discussion with young Bugle residents, under the age of 16, has revealed that they feel there is often nothing for them to do in the local area. This lack of diversion has the potential to lead to a community of disengaged youngsters which can in turn have a negative effect on other members of the community.
We want the young residents of Bugle to have a sense of ownership and responsibility and to see an understanding and trust develop between the different generations which make up the Bugle community. We are keen to ensure that all members of the community respect each other and each other's property, to encourage a safe, friendly and cohesive community.
The Proposal
To create a community facility in the woodland area that provides:
1. A better drained, well constructed bicycle track for youngsters to use
2. An opportunity for youngsters to learn about and become involved in the management of the woodland itself to help support and enhance local wildlife.
