The Benefts

The development of this green space as a community owned asset would benefit a number of people, most significantly the residents of Bugle, for both existing and future generations.  Here are some of the reasons why we think this is the best use of the existing green space. It could:

a) Provide a resource for the existing local community that will make the rest of the proposed development more acceptable.

b) Give an approach route and views for the new development across green fields and natural Cornish hedgerows making the new properties more desirable.

c) Reduce the impact of increased waste and surface water run-off from the new development.

d) Provide a green corridor by which walkers, cyclists and dog walkers can access wider path and trail networks around the Goonbarrow quarry area.

e) Support and encourage local wildlife and biodiversity.

f) Engage local children (and their parentsfamilies) with education centred around sustainability and the environment through hands-on activity using the allotment, community composting and management of natural habitats as tools.

g) Reduce vandalism and anti-social behaviour by providing the local community with a resource to engage people of all ages – to share knowledge, respect and hard work.

h) The production of food locally will help the community become more sustainable and assist those on low incomes to eat more healthily.

i) Provide a recreational resource that will encourage people to undertake activities that will help improve their health, fitness and general well-being.

j) Reduce the visual impact of the proposed development on existing properties that border the green fields and scrubland.

k) Protect old tin mine workings and ancient field systems in area.

l) Help Imerys's development proposals meet some of the key criteria for eco-towns as set out in the Department for Communities and Local Government document ‘Eco-towns Living a greener future’. For example:
• Community empowerment and encouraging active community participation.
• Creating local trusts to manage community assets.
• Promoting healthy and sustainable environments, including encouraging healthy living choices.
• Imaginative proposals that create additional green infrastructure.

This proposal will therefore will help give the Goonbarrow development something different/extra to help secure eco-town planning approval AND provide considerable benefits for existing residents.
